Terms of Service
Last updated: April 2, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using NoToken ("the Software"), including the command-line interface (CLI), desktop application, website (notoken.sh), and any associated services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to all of these Terms, you must not use the Software.
These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and Dino Bartolome ("Author," "we," "us," or "our"), the creator and maintainer of NoToken.
2. Description of Service
NoToken is a token-free terminal assistant that interprets natural language commands and executes system operations on your behalf. The Software includes:
- NoToken CLI — A command-line tool distributed via npm that parses natural language into system operations
- NoToken Desktop — An Electron-based graphical application providing a dashboard and chat interface
- NoToken Core — A shared library used by both the CLI and desktop application
- notoken.sh — The official website providing documentation, downloads, and API services
The Software can install, uninstall, and configure software on your system; execute shell commands; read and modify files and configuration; connect to remote servers via SSH; manage Docker containers; provision self-hosted services; and optionally connect to AI/LLM providers for enhanced natural language processing.
3. License
NoToken is released under the MIT License. Subject to the conditions of that license, you may use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software. The full text of the MIT License is included with the Software and available in the project repository.
This open-source license applies to the Software's source code. These Terms of Service govern your use of the Software and any associated services, and apply in addition to the MIT License.
4. Beta Software Disclaimer
The NoToken desktop application is currently in beta. Beta software may contain bugs, errors, incomplete features, or unexpected behavior. The desktop installer is not code-signed, which means your operating system may display security warnings during installation.
By using beta software, you acknowledge and accept the additional risks associated with pre-release software. We encourage you to report bugs and issues to help improve the Software.
5. User Responsibilities and Acknowledgments
By using NoToken, you acknowledge and agree that:
- Command Execution — NoToken executes real system commands on your behalf. You are solely responsible for understanding what commands are executed and their consequences on your system.
- Review Before Confirming — While the Software includes safety mechanisms (allowlists, confirmation gates, auto-backups), you must review all proposed actions before confirming execution, especially destructive operations.
- Credential Security — You are responsible for the security of any API keys, tokens, passwords, SSH keys, and other credentials used with or accessible to the Software.
- Authorization — You must have proper authorization to manage any systems, servers, or services you connect to through the Software.
- Data Backup — You should maintain backups of important data before using system modification commands. While NoToken includes auto-backup features for certain operations, these are provided as a convenience and are not guaranteed.
- Legal Compliance — You must comply with all applicable local, state, national, and international laws and regulations when using the Software.
6. System Operations and Risk
NoToken operates at the system level with the permissions of the user running the Software. This means it can read, write, and execute files; install and remove software packages; modify system configuration; start and stop services; and perform other administrative tasks.
You accept all risk associated with the execution of system commands through the Software. The Author is not responsible for any damage to your system, data loss, security breaches, service disruptions, or other adverse effects resulting from the use of the Software.
Safety features such as confirmation prompts, command allowlists, and automatic backups are provided as best-effort protections and do not constitute a guarantee against unintended consequences.
7. Plugins and Extensions
NoToken supports a plugin system that allows third-party code to extend its functionality. Plugins may execute arbitrary code on your system with the same permissions as the Software.
- You are solely responsible for vetting and trusting any plugins you install
- The Author is not responsible for the behavior, security, or data practices of third-party plugins
- Plugins installed from npm or other package registries are governed by their own licenses and terms
8. Third-Party Software and Services
NoToken can install, configure, and interact with third-party software and services. Each third-party tool is subject to its own license, terms of service, and privacy policy:
- Anthropic (Claude Code) — Subject to Anthropic's Terms of Service
- OpenAI — Subject to OpenAI's Terms of Use
- Ollama — Runs locally on your machine; subject to the Ollama license
- OpenClaw — Subject to OpenClaw's terms and license
- Docker — Subject to Docker's Subscription Service Agreement
- Matrix/Conduit — Subject to the Conduit license and Matrix.org Foundation terms
We are not responsible for the functionality, availability, security, or data practices of any third-party software installed, configured, or accessed through NoToken. You are responsible for complying with the terms of any third-party service you use.
9. Optional LLM / AI Features
NoToken operates primarily offline using local natural language processing. Enhanced AI features are strictly opt-in and require explicit configuration:
- Local LLM (Ollama) — Runs entirely on your machine. No data is sent externally.
- Cloud LLM (Claude, OpenAI)— When enabled, your natural language input may be sent to the respective provider's API. This is clearly indicated in the interface and requires you to provide your own API credentials.
- Adaptive Rules — The Software can use LLM providers to improve command recognition over time. This feature is opt-in and the learned rules are stored locally on your machine.
When using cloud LLM providers, your data is subject to that provider's privacy policy and data retention practices. Review their policies before enabling these features.
10. Intellectual Property
The NoToken name, logo, and branding are the property of the Author. The "NoToken" trademark and associated trade dress may not be used in connection with any product or service that is not the Author's, in any manner that is likely to cause confusion, or in any manner that disparages or discredits the Author.
The Software's source code is licensed under the MIT License, which permits use, modification, and distribution of the code. This license does not grant rights to use the NoToken name or branding for derivative products without permission.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT.
The Author does not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components. The Author does not warrant that the results obtained from use of the Software will be accurate or reliable. The Author does not warrant that any commands executed by the Software will produce the intended results.
No advice or information, whether oral or written, obtained from the Author or through the Software shall create any warranty not expressly stated in these Terms.
12. Limitation of Liability
IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHOR BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:
- YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE) THE SOFTWARE
- ANY CONDUCT OR CONTENT OF ANY THIRD PARTY IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE
- ANY COMMANDS EXECUTED ON YOUR SYSTEM THROUGH THE SOFTWARE
- UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, USE, OR ALTERATION OF YOUR DATA OR SYSTEMS
- DATA LOSS, SYSTEM DAMAGE, OR SERVICE DISRUPTION
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Author's total liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the use of the Software shall not exceed the amount you paid to the Author for the Software (which may be zero for the free, open-source version).
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Author from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the Software, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of any third party.
14. Consulting Services
Consulting and professional support services offered through notoken.sh are provided by Dino Bartolome and are subject to separate agreements negotiated on a per-engagement basis. These Terms do not govern consulting engagements unless explicitly referenced in the consulting agreement.
15. Termination
You may stop using the Software at any time by uninstalling it from your system. The Author reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Software (or any part thereof) at any time without notice.
Sections 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, and 17 shall survive any termination of these Terms.
16. Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Software after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to provide notice (such as a note in the CLI update message or on the website). However, it is your responsibility to review these Terms periodically.
17. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
18. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these Terms shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
19. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the MIT License, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Author regarding the use of the Software, superseding any prior agreements.
